Police fired tear gas at supporters of Zamalek who were trying to force their way into the stadium, which led to sections of people being crushed.

Fans claim that the crushing was the authorities' fault for opening only a single gate.

An arrest warrant has been issued for leading members of the White Knights, a Zamalek supporters group.

This latest suspension follows on from one in 2012 when 74 fans died in rioting at a game in Port Said.

According to early witness accounts around 20 people were injured in Cairo on Sunday at the Air Defense Stadium.

Despite the pre-match violence, the match went ahead.
