The praise for James Milner is gathering more momentum than one of his recovering tackles after another super display in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Tottenham.

The 32-year-old has started the season in magnificent form and his high-energy display was at the heart of Liverpool’s fine win at Wembley Stadium.

His 12.90km against Spurs was the highest in the game and aside from the running, he created three chances with his corner leading to Gini Wijnaldum’s opener.

And his stunning start has received praise from outside the Liverpool fan base with former Everton striker and respected presenter Gary Lineker offering an apology for previous comments made about the midfielder.

The Reds head into their Champions League opener against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday top of the table after 15 points from 15 and no doubt Thomas Tuchel will mark out Milner as one to watch.
