Spanish giants Real Madrid became the first side to win the Champions League three times in a row with victory over Liverpool in last month’s final in Kiev.

Gareth Bale’s wonder goal will go down in history as one of, if not the best, Champions League goal of all-time. His overhead kick, the first of the two goals the substitute scored, was  good enough to win any one of the 13 European Cup finals in which Madrid have now won.

The final in Kiev will be just as well-remembered for a couple of goalkeeping clangers, which gave Jurgen Klopp’s men an almost impossible task of needing to score four in order to defeat Zinedine Zidane’s men.

Either side of Bale’s bicycle kick Madrid were gifted goals by Red’s keeper Loris Karius. The German stopper hastily bowled the ball across his goal into the path of Karim Benzema, who stuck out a leg and the ball trickled into the empty net for Madrid’s opener. Bale came back to haunt Karius in the later stages as the midfielder stuck a speculative shot from distance, which the goalkeeper let slip through his fingers.

The 3-1 win saw Madrid claim their Champions League title for a record-breaking third straight year. In doing so, Zinedine Zidane became the first manager to win the trophy three times on the bounce and Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player to win the competition five times.
