Lionel Messi and Nicklas Bendtner wanted by Indian Super League supporters

Indian Super League fans have demanded that Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and ex-Arsenal forward Nicklas Bendtner join the influx of stars playing in the country’s newly-created football competition.

The ISL launched with a fanfare last Sunday, with football legends such as Alessandro Del Piero, Robert Pires and David Trezeguet all taking to the field for Indian clubs.

But it seems some supporters are not content with the current line-up of players, with banners spotted at the recent game between Delhi Dynamos and Pune City requesting that Messi and Bendtner be snapped up.

One poster read “Messi please come to ISL”, while another demanded the presence of “Lord” Bendtner, who is currently representing Wolfsburg in Germany’s Bundesliga.

With Bendtner yet to score in the league for Wolfsburg, his arrival may be a more realistic option than Messi, though Indian fans – whose imagination has been captured by the new football league – can always dream.
