Manchester United advanced to the semi-finals of the FA Cup with a 2-0 victory over Brighton at Old Trafford on Saturday night.

Nemanja Matic set up Romelu Lukaku for the opener in the first half before heading home the second in the closing stages to secure the win.

Here are our United player ratings.

MAN UNITED 4-2-3-1

Sergio Romero – 7: Had to be alert and make a few smart saves. His effort to deny Jurgen Locadia’s shot from the edge of the box was the pick of the bunch.

Antonio Valencia – 7: Did allow Locadia a free header at the back post on one occasion but was solid otherwise.

Eric Bailly – 7: Excellent at the back. Made some telling interventions.

Chris Smalling – 7: Hit the post at the other end and was solid in his own penalty area.

Luke Shaw – 6: Had an average first half and was replaced at the break, presumably due to injury.

Scott McTominay – 7: Didn’t put a foot wrong. Couldn’t offer the drive United needed from midfield but didn’t put a foot wrong either. Another solid display.

Nemanja Matic – 8: Assumed responsibility in midfield and began pushing forward in the first half. Set up the first goal and scored the second with a fine header. Completed seven dribbles!

Juan Mata – 6: Tried to make things happen but had little to work with in terms of movement from his team-mates.

Jesse Lingard – 6: Scurried about without getting on the end of many passes or making any of note himself. A peripheral figure.

Anthony Martial – 6: His dribbling was not on point and he ended up losing the ball time and again.

Romelu Lukaku – 8: Worked hard and did well with what he had to work with. Took his goal well.
