Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has committed to playing for Scotland, snubbing England in the process.

The 21-year-old was born in England but is eligible to play for Scotland through his father, who is from Glasgow. He has yet to represent any side at international level, but his international future became the subject of speculation after his rise to a first-team regular at United, and especially after starring in a win over reigning Premier League champions Chelsea last month.

McTominay met Scotland boss Alex McLeish last Thursday, and was scheduled to meet England manager Gareth Southgate on Friday, although reportedly this meeting ultimately did not take place.

The young midfielder may be named in Scotland’s squad for this month’s friendlies against Costa Rica and Hungary, with the squad set to be announced next week.
