Manchester City are looking to complete the signings of Jonny Evans from West Brom and Shakhtar Donetsk’s Fred this month, according to Goal.

Club chiefs met before yesterday’s 3-1 victory over Newcastle as they look to strengthen their squad, having lost out on Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez who’s set to complete his move to Manchester United.

Sporting director Txiki Begiristain outlined the January plan for the Premier League leaders, following rumours the deal for Evans has already been agreed – which both clubs have subsequently denied.

Brazilian international Fred also looks to be heading to the Etihad before the end of the season. Pep Guardiola sees the 24-year-old as the long-term replacement for Fernandinho in the base of his midfield.

Wanted man: West Brom’s Jonny Evans

Fred impressed Guardiola when City played Shakhtar in Europe earlier this season and looks certain to complete a £50 million move to the Blues.

However, the Ukrainian side are reluctant to lose their star man, who has also attracted attention from United and Arsenal, but the transfer would help the club’s proposed stadium move amid security fears.

Donetsk, located close the Ukrainian border with Russia, is facing an increased threat of military action forcing them to look at relocating.

Meanwhile, City are also keeping an eye on Lille’s teenage star Boubakary Soumare, with scouts watching the 18-year-old against Rennes last week.
