Brazilian defender Lucas Mendes has left Marseille for Qatari club El Jaish.

The 24-year-old flew out to Qatar earlier in the week to undergo a medical and has now signed a contract, the details of which the club say they will announce at a press conference on Saturday.

Mendes' exit leaves Marseille looking short of defensive options, with only Nicolas Nkoulou, Rod Fanni and teenager Baptiste Aloe as recognised centre-backs.

Jeremy Morel, Benjamin Mendy, Brice Dja Djedje and youngster Laurent Abergel are the full-backs available to new coach Marcelo Bielsa.
