The top footballers in the world are paid exorbitant amounts of money but given the nature of their profession, they rarely have time to actually get away and enjoy it.

So when the summer does come around, they usually plan extravagant vacations to make the most of the time they have away from the game.

From trying new activities to tying the knot and a few ill-advised hair styles, it’s always entertaining to see what the biggest stars in the game get up to when they’re off the clock.

LIONEL MESSI

The Barcelona superstar went on vacation to Ibiza along with his fiance Antonella Roccuzzo and spent time with friends Luis Suarez and Cesc Fabregas, who brought their significant others along as well.

The three couples were pictured enjoying a night out and were even victims of a restaurant bill hoax. A picture of a bill upwards of 37,000 euros began circulating social media with suggestions that the three footballers and their partners had splurged that sum on one dinner.

Messi uncharacteristically responded though, ridiculing the picture and assumptions made from it.

Translated, the message read: “Hahahahahahaha, what a way to talk s***. How they invent. The most beautiful thing is that people believe it.”

PAUL POGBA

Paul Pogba has been doing a bit of globe-trotting. After embarking on a religious pilgrimage to Mecca at the start of Ramadan, he headed to China where he – in true Pogba style – sprinted across the Great Wall.

He also spent time with former Juventus team-mate Carlos Tevez who now plies his trade at Shanghai Shenhua in the Chinese Super League and of course visited Disney Land in Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, Neymar has headed to the United States. He watched the NBA finals, posed with The Flash in LA and made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

The Atletico Madrid star got married to his partner Erika Choperena over the weekend. It’s clear that they’re still in the honeymoon phase though if she’s letting him get away with those blue streaks in his hair!
