How new signing Mahmoud Dahoud will fit in with the rest of Borussia Dortmund’s young brigade

Borussia Dortmund seem to be stockpiling young talent, with Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud the latest to make the move to the Westfalenstadion.

The 21-year-old will join Dortmund at the end of the season, entering a side already stacked with young talent.

In Ousmane Dembele, Christian Pulisic, Julian Weigl, Emre Mor, Alexander Isak ā€“ Dortmund boast a host of talented players who are 21 or younger, with Dahoud now joining the ranks.

Dahoud had previously attracted strong interest from Liverpool, and there was reportedly an approach from Paris Saint-Germain as well, but Dortmundā€™s emphasis on youth has won out again.

What remains to be seen, however, is how the team will keep all of its young core happy.

Dahoud is a midfielder, as are Pulisic and Weigl, with the latter especially highly thought of at BVB.

And, of course, US international Pulisic is already making waves for both club and country.

Considering that Dortmund also have top-class quality among their experienced players in these positions, such as Marco Reus, Shinji Kagawa, and, when he regains fitness, Mario Gotze, getting regular first-team appearances will be a challenge for Dahoud, at least initially.

Dortmund possibly envision a Dahoud-Weigl-Pulisic midfield, but this trio will have to excel indeed if they are to supplant the stars ahead of them.

What the move does do is, for the club, add depth, with yet another exciting young option in the squad.

For Dahoud, it is an opportunity to be at a club that is competing in the later stages of the Champions League and will soon, hopefully, be Bayern Munichā€™s biggest challengers for the Bundesliga title again. Dahoud should see immense gains if he can contribute to these goals.

While the problem of plenty may give Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel selection headaches, thereā€™s no doubting that the club is building one of the most exciting young cores in Europe.
