When Radamel Falcao returned to Monaco last summer, his reputation as a deadly striker was in tatters after two unsuccessful seasons in the Premier League. One year each with Manchester United and Chelsea had made Falcao look like a spent force, a player whose prior injuries had gotten the better of him.

Fast forward to now, however, and Falcao seems like a player reborn. The Colombian has scored 20 goals across all competitions this season, and is third in the Ligue 1 scoring charts with 16. Falcao’s exploits have helped Monaco to the top of the table, four points ahead of favourites PSG.

While some may hesitate to declare Falcao as one of the world’s best strikers again, the stats show that he is exactly that. He’s rediscovered his traditional ruthlessness in front of goal, converting chances better than the rest of Europe’s leading strikers.

Manchester City, Monaco’s Champions League opponents next week, should beware. Monaco’s success this season has largely been attributed to their young core, with exciting attacking players such as Bernardo Silva, Thomas Lemar, and Kylian Mbappe, but leading the way is their veteran striker who, more and more, is looking like the ‘El Tigre’ of old.
