Former England captain John Terry announced his retirement from international football on this day, four years ago.

The defender, who won 78 caps with England, had attracted plenty of bad press in 2012 over allegations of racially abusing Anton Ferdinand during a Premier League game.

1986: Liverpool 10-0 Fulham. Steve McMahon missed a penalty but made up with it by netting four times. Ian Rush got a couple, as did John Wark, while Ronnie Whelan and Steve Nicol also notched.

2010: Boxer Ricky Hatton’s licence was withdrawn by the British Boxing Board of Control after they laid charges of ‘’bringing boxing into disrepute arising out of incidents of alcohol and drug abuse”
