  • Ahmad Khalid Hammad, Al Ahli CEO, has revealed the club are “more than 50 per cent” of the way towards building a new stadium.

The Dubai club currently play their football at the 18,000-capacity Al-Rashid Stadium in the north of the city, but are keen to move to a more modern arena.

“There is a project and I think we have moved through more than 50 per cent of this project, to build a new stadium,” Hammad told Sport360°. “Designs have been finished but of course they need to be approved by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan, the president of the club.

“Of course it will be a huge project and it will be one of the most modern stadiums in the UAE and we are working towards finishing the design and finishing all the studies, feasibility studies and financial studies for this project and we wish during the season we can announce this project.”

Hammad refused to rule out the possibility of the club relocating to another part of Dubai if it was desirable for the project: “That will be the decision of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan, he will decide if we will do it in the same area as the existing stadium or whether we have to build it somewhere else in Dubai.”
