  • Blackburn Rovers manager Gary Bowyer has challenged Bani Yas midfielder Amer Abdulrahman to prove his worth before the club sign him on a season-long loan deal.

Abdulrahman is poised for a trial with the English Championship outfit next week as he bids to earn a longer stay at Ewood Park.

Bower rejected earlier claims from a Bani Yas official that a loan agreement was already in place, but confirmed the club’s interest in the 24-year-old UAE international.

Speaking after his side’s 2-2 pre-season draw at Rochdale, the Blackburn boss said: “If the player was someone we would be interested in, we’re not just going to take somebody on a season-long loan straight away.

“We would always make sure we’ve had a look at them – he’s another name that’s on the list.”

OPINION: Abdulrahman’s Bani Yas ambition refreshing as it is bold for UAE football

Bani Yas deputy chairman Mubarak Awad had previously told Sport360° that a loan move was a done deal. But it is understood that Abdulrahman will fly to England on Monday where he will begin a trial to prove to Blackburn and Bowyer that he is ready to make the leap from the Arabian Gulf League to the English Championship.

A move could still be scuppered, though, by Britain’s work permit rules that demand a player must play 75 per cent of his international games in the last two years and plays for a country in the world’s top 70 in the FIFA rankings, where the UAE are currently placed 85th.
