Al Wasl have confirmed they are in talks to sign Brazilian striker Jussiê Ferreira Vieira, but insist a deal has still to be agreed.
Jussie, 29, is due to arrive in Dubai on Wednesday for signing talks with the Cheetahs.
Should, as is expected, an agreement be reached between the two parties, it will spell the end of Shikabala’s time at the Zabeel Stadium.
The 30-year-old joined the team on a season-long loan from Egyptian side Zamalek in the summer, but after an encouraging start he has failed to live up to expectations.
Shikabala has been recuperating in Cairo since picking up a knee injury in Wasl’s 3-1 defeat to Bani Yas in mid-December, and could very well have played his last game for the club.
Manager Guy Lacombe admitted last week he was looking to replace the Egyptian. However, club spokesman Tariq Abdalla has urged for caution, insisting that Shikabala could yet have a future at the Zabeel should the club fail to agree terms with Ferreira.
“Ferreira will arrive in the country after two days. The board will sit with him and if they agree with everything about the contract they will sign,” Abdalla told Sport360°.
“If that is the case then automatically Shikabala will leave the club. If there is no agreement, Shikabala will stay. Until now, we are waiting. Only after Wednesday will everything become clear.”
Should he join Wasl, Jussie would become the club’s fourth signing of the transfer window after Achille Emana, Ghanem Bashir and Mohammed Nasser.
