The Indian cricket board issued a denial following a report in a Mumbai publication which stated that captain Virat Kohli had been asked to behave more responsibly during his interactions with media and fans.

Kohli has received flak on multiple occasions for his conduct, which has been labelled arrogant by many. He got into heated arguments with journalists during the tours of South Africa and England, showing unwarranted levels of hostility while answering straightforward questions.

Then recently, he was criticised by one and all for suggesting, in a video where he was reading fans’ comments, that those who don’t support Indian players and prefer those outside should leave the country.

According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Kohli was told by the Committee of Administrators – running the BCCI at the moment – that he must behave with more humility during the tour of Australia.

The report stated that: “He was told to be humble, in his interactions both with the press and the public. It was conveyed to Kohli that his recent conduct reeked of arrogance.”

However, the Indian board said such an interaction did not take place.

“The BCCI after consulting with the team management would like to rubbish the report and classify it as baseless,” the statement said.
