The UAE U19s followed up Monday’s dismal 10-wicket defeat with another inept performance against hosts Malaysia at the ACC Premier League.

Not a single UAE player managed double figures as they were skittled for 53 in 23.3 overs, a total chased down by their opponents for the loss of five wickets in just 14 overs.

Extras top scored for the UAE with 10 as Syed Aziz (5-30) and Ammar Rahim (4-10) ran through the UAE order, wicket-keeper Mohammad Afsal (8) contributing highest with the bat for Aaqib Javed’s youngsters.

Having been bowled out for just 88 against Afghanistan the previous day, the UAE’s efforts marked a dismal penultimate outing for a side that had hopes of a top-two finish prior to the tournament’s start.

It leaves the UAE with just one victory against winless Saudi Arabia to show from their first four outings and in need of victory in their final match against Kuwait if they are to stand a chance of finishing fourth.

Vice-captain Yodhin Punja salvaged some respectability for the UAE with 4-31 as Malaysia went at the bowling in pursuit of a quick finish.

Punja was pleased by his own efforts but dissapointed in the batsmen’s inability to adapt to 50-over cricket.

“It feels very good but it’s not the first time I’m doing well on the tour so it shows that I’m performing pretty consistently and that’s a good thing for me and want to continue that in the last match that we have,” he told Sport360.

“I think our batsmen are not used to playing the 50-over format and are playing shots that are not sensible. I think they are not applying themselves on the field and I think that’s the reason why we have had batting collapses during the tour.”

Atharva Kavi took the other Malaysian wicket, while Aziz also starred with the bat, making 32 not out to see his side home with 36 overs to spare.
