Tushar Tugnait was in fine form with the bat as his century helped Young Talents Cricket Academy (YTCA) to a comfortable 102-run win over GMCA in the U-14 Skyline Ramadan Cup.

The 14-year-old smashed 130 runs off just 56 balls as YTCA posted a mammoth 198-4 in their allotted 20 overs at Sharjah’s Skyline College. In reply, GMCA fell short of their target, restricted to 96-7 which saw three run-outs by YTCA.

For Tugnait, it was the fourth century of his career in an innings that saw him hit 10 maximums and eight boundaries, before displaying great fielding skills to take two catches.

“It was a great display because I was not in good form coming into the game. So that innings has given me a huge amount of confidence for the rest of the summer,” said the GEMS Modern Academy student, who has played for Maxtalent Global Sports.

“I scored centuries in the Max-talent Global Sports Vision Cup last year so that was very good for me.

“But this is a special century for me as we were batting first and I had to play my shots in a proper manner. I couldn’t rush my shots and took my time at the crease.

“Plus it was a chance to build my temperament as that’s very important in cricket. I just played singles and doubles which eventually piled on the runs for the team.

“The fact that I took a number of singles and doubles is something I’m very proud,” added Tugnait, who will attend a training camp at Karnataka Institute of Cricket in Bangalore this month.

“The reception I got was fantastic. I got a standing ovation from both sides which was very pleasing.”
