Wesgreen Wolverines enjoyed a comfortable 51-run win over NIMS Rising Stars in an under-15 encounter at Sharjah Stadium on Friday.

NIMS won the toss and chose to field, but they were unable to contain the dynamic batting partnership of Wesgreen’s Omer Ranq (27 off 44) and man of the match Mubasher Aziz (37 off 49).

Both players exhibited magnificent batting technique during their stay at the crease.

Aziz, in particular, stood out and led his side by example.

Wesgreen set a target of 155-2 at the end of their allotted 15 overs, and even though NIMS fought bravely, they were bowled out for 105.

A number of batting errors cost NIMS the game, however, Adithyan Jayakumar, Fahad Khan and Ruthwik D. deserve a mention for their efforts.

Man of the match Aziz also bagged two wickets, taken from successive deliveries.

He felt their batting display had built the foundation for the win.

“I think the damage was done in the first inning. We set them a big score and it was always going to prove difficult,” he said.

“Our fielding needs more work. It was just some field placements that we got wrong, but overall we’ll walk away from this game pleased,” added Aziz.

Wesgreen coach Niven Balraj agreed with Aziz and now wants to get the best out of his team going forward and winning the league title.

“Our batting really laid the foundation for the victory. We were very fortunate. NIMS gave away a lot of extras and we continued to capitalise on our chances,” he said.

“In order to get the best out of our young cricketers, we just need to keep playing to the best of our ability. It’s all a learning curve but today was an indication as to our potential going forward. We want to win this competition so we’ll continue working as hard as we can.”

On the back of yesterday’s performance, it will take a tough team to beat Wesgreen under-15s.
