The UAE suffered their second straight defeat to Western Australia, losing by nine wickets in their High Performance Programme (HPP) tour yesterday.

Put in to bat at Murdoch University in Perth, Shaiman Anwar (63) cracked an half century but the UAE were all out for 210 with Andrew Tye claiming 4-29.

In reply, Western Australia reached the target comfortably with 74 balls to spare thanks to Marcus Harris’ century (122), who was the only batsman dismissed.

The UAE travel to Darwin today for their next match against Northern Territory on Wednesday, and  captain Khurram Khan has demanded an improved performance  for the rest of the tour.

He said: “We just didn’t put on a big enough score. We did the same mistakes with the bat in our last match (in the 38-run loss to Western Australia) and we didn’t have enough batting time at the crease. 

“Our fielding was a big let down, and we conceded too many runs but we’ll have to learn from this for the next match.”

Despite an opening stand of 48 by Amjad Ali (22) and Andrei Berenger (26), the UAE failed to stitch together partnerships with wickets falling regularly. Only six batsmen reached double figures with bowler Mohammed Naveed scoring the second highest for UAE with 28.

The Australian outfit lost their only wicket when Fayyaz Ahmed removed Harris in the 37th over of the innings.
