Every week, we feature a top performer from the extensive pool of cricket talent in the United Arab Emirates.

From the many blossoming cricketers in the region, we name a standout player from each round of the U-17 league organised by the Emirates Cricket Board.

CRICKETER OF THE WEEK – ARJUN SAWANT

Arjun Sawant is our award winner this week after his match-winning performance helped G-Force Academy to a massive 140-run win over MaxTalent Cricket Academy on Saturday.

The right-arm off-spinner took six wickets for just 14 runs in his 4.3 overs to help dismiss the opposition for a paltry 48 after his side posted 188 in the first innings.

The 15-year-old managed two maidens during his spell, going for an economy of 3.11.

He exhibited safe hands as well, taking three catches, two of which were off his own bowling.

COACH’S INSIGHT

The head coach at Sawant’s academy, Gopal Jaspara shed some light on the rising star.

“He’s been with G-Force Academy for four years and has been consistently performing as a bowler,” Jaspara said.

Apart from his talent with the ball, Sawant his handy while wielding the bat as well as his coach pointed out.

“He’s also scored one fifty in this tournament. He’s not only a bowler but a batsman as well.”

That knock was an unbeaten 53 from 45 balls against ICC Academy in the previous round.
