Ahmed Raza: Dougie Brown can make big impact as UAE head coach

18:59 24/06/2017

UAE spinner Ahmed Raza believes the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) have made the right call in making Dougie Brown the new head coach.

Brown, 47, was announced as the permanent successor to Aaqib Javed last month after impressing the ECB during his temporary three-month spell as interim.

During that period, he oversaw series wins in the T20s and ODIs as well as the four-day ICC Intercontinental Cup – their first in this competition since 2013 – against Papua New Guinea in Abu Dhabi in April.

He followed it up with another series victory against Oman in Muscat later that month.

Raza was involved in both series’ and having been reunited with the former Warwickshire boss earlier this month, he believes the new man has what it takes to take the team forward.

“We’ve been training almost every day in Ramadan and it’s been really good working with Dougie Brown,” said the 28-year-old, who has been named in the 14-man squad to face Netherlands next month in a three-match ODI series.

“If you look at our results under him, they’ve been positive. We still want to improve and to do that, you have to keep doing the simple things in a really professional manner and do that over and over again.

“As a cricketer who has played more than 100 games, he understands he can’t tinker a lot with your skills but gives his thoughts on how to deal with different situations. The ECB have taken the right decision and have the right man in the job.”
