Fayyaz Ahmed claimed a five-for and Faizan Asif scored an unbeaten century in Ibsons Group’s convincing 10-wicket victory over Lanka Lions in a Group D match of the 40th Bukhatir League ‘A’ Division Tournament at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Batting first, the Lions lost two early wickets with Faraz Khan removing Kalum Fernando for nine and Dilshan Vitharana running himself out for a duck.

Kumara Prashanth and Malintha Perera then strung together 64 runs for the third wicket to shore up the innings.

Following Perera’s dismissal, Prashanth and Gayan Eranda added 117 runs for the fourth wicket, the former falling 10 short of a century.

The Lions were eventually dismissed for 196 in 45.2 overs. In reply, Ibsons Group openers Rameez Raja (60 n.o) and Asif (133 n.o) dominated, smashing the Lanka bowlers all over the park in a dominant display.

Asif struck nine fours and 13 sixes in his unbeaten 60-ball stay at the wicket, while Raja played cautiously to keep his wicket intact at the other end.

Raja took 47 balls for his 60, with the help of nine hits to the fence.
