Wasim Akram appointed as team president of Pakistan Super League outfit Karachi Kings

Legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram has been appointed as the president of Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Karachi Kings.

Akram’s appointment to the role was confirmed by Kings owner Salman Iqbal Ary on Wednesday through a tweet.

“Sultan of Swing is The New King…The Legendary Wasim Akram joins Karachi Kings as The President of the team! Welcome,” the Karachi Kings owner announced.

In the last edition of the PSL, Akram had served as the team director and bowling coach for the now defunct Multan Sultans. The Kings will be third different franchise the former Pakistan pacer has been associated with following his two-year stint as mentor and coach of Islamabad United for the first couple of editions.

The 52-year-old expressed his delight at joining the Karachi outfit on social media.

“How exciting is this? The PSL2019 only months away, this year escalating to a whole new level for Pakistan. Incredible new Pakistani talent, welcoming more international stars, eight games at home and I’m proud to announce I’ll be joining Karachi Kings on the field,” Akram wrote on Twitter.

On Tuesday, the six PSL franchised had announced their set of retained players ahead of the player-draft for the 2019 edition which takes place at Islamabad on November 20.

The Karachi Kings had let go of former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi along with England limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan. The franchise had retained Pakistan batsman Babar Azam, Mohammad Amir and Colin Munro for the 2019 edition.
