If Shahid Afridi had his way, there would be a multitude of Indian players playing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

The former Pakistan all-rounder saw his side Karachi Kings’ campaign in the ongoing PSL come to an end with a 12-run defeat to Peshawar Zalmi in the Eliminator at Lahore on Wednesday.

While speaking at an event organised by his Shahid Afridi Foundation in Lahore on Thursday, the 38-year-old stated that Indian players were forbidden to play in overseas T20 leagues due to their central contracts but said he would send them an invitation nevertheless.

“But we should at least try to invite them for the PSL. I know it is difficult that they will come as they only play in the Indian Premier League. But we should invite them for the next edition of the PSL,” he said.

The third edition of the PSL has seen the two eliminators take place in Lahore with the finals slated to be held in Karachi. This has seen several international stars visit Pakistan to represent their respective franchises. However, there are many who have opted not to make that travel, including the likes of Kevin Pietersen.

This has irked many former players and officials, who believe that only those overseas players willing to play in the country should be signed by the PSL franchises for future editions.

Afridi agreed with this sentiment despite calling the move to stage three matches back in Pakistan as a big step for resumption of international cricket in the country.

“It is a very big step forward but I also believe that in future only those foreign players should be invited for the PSL who agree to also come and play in Pakistan when required,” he added.
