Karachi Kings and Pakistan star all-rounder Shahid Afridi will keep his fingers crossed as he awaits results of an MRI scan of his knee.

Afridi enjoyed a superb start to the third edition of the Pakistan Super League, picking up six wickets in three games. But he looks set for some time on the sidelines after picking up a knee injury with Karachi looking to preserve him for the business end of the tournament.

“Apologies to all my fans who came to watch me play today. Getting an MRI done for my knee. Need your prayers. Will get back soon Inshallah,” Afridi tweeted on Friday as the match between Karachi and Multan Sultans in Sharjah got abandoned due to rain.

Karachi coach Mickey Arthur said given the quality that Afridi brings to the table, the management will monitor his fitness carefully.

“Rather than pushing him to play today we will preserve him for the back end of the tournament,” Arthur was quoted as saying.

Afridi turned 38 on Thursday and knee injuries can become particularly difficult to recover from at that age.
