Quetta Gladiators got back to winning ways in the PSL with a nine-wicket thrashing of Lahore Qalandars on Saturday night.

Quetta had lost to Karachi Kings on Friday but this time around, they were far more clinical with the bat and ball. Set 120 to win, Shane Watson was at his best with a 66-run knock from 42 deliveries that included five boundaries and as many sixes.

Sunil Narine impressed with the bat but endured a frustrating time with the ball, conceding 40 runs off his four overs and claiming the wicket of Watson.

Mohammad Nawaz was named man of the match for his outstanding spell of 4-1-4-2. Jofra Archer proved his mettle with a three wicket-haul (3-23) as Lahore were restricted to 119-9 at Dubai International Stadium.

NARINE FINE AS AN OPENER

Not for the first time, the West Indian has opened the batting in a T20 competition. With Chris Lynn ruled out, on Friday he hit 26 from 20 deliveries and Saturday’s performance was another example of how effective he can be with the bat. Shane Watson was taken apart as Narine punished the Australia by hitting him for two sixes and three fours for 28 off 10 balls.

WATSON HITS BACK

In the chase, Watson smashed Narine for 21 runs off an over – equaling Narine’s most expensive over in PSL. Watson hit Narine for woeful bowling with two fours and two sixes to bring up his half-century at the end of the seventh over. Narine managed to dismiss Watson but it was too little too late.

NAWAZ GIVES NOTHING AWAY

As much as Lahore Qalandars were poor with the bat, nothing should be taken away from the 23-year-old left-arm spinner. Nawaz was superb with 20 dot balls, finishing with figures of 4-1-4-2 – the best economy in PSL history.
