Delhi Daredevils are no longer in the play-off race but they will continue to chase victories in their remaining two games, insists assistant coach Pravin Amre.

Delhi will be up against table-toppers Chennai Super Kings in their home game at Raipur today and Amre believes the quality of opposition will inspire his players to come up with a strong display.

“Chennai are one team in the tournament every team wants to do well against, whether you are qualifying or not for the play-offs,” Amre said yesterday. 

“In the first match we had played really well, but lost by just one run. Regardless of our position in the points table the game against CSK is important; they are a good team. 

“We are a team that is in the rebuilding mode. We have a lot of youngsters in the team and they will be looking forward to performing well in this match.”

Delhi did well to win four out of their first eight games but then their campaign fell apart as they ended up losing four in a row.

The former India batsman while stressing the need for consistency is encouraged by the performan-ces of players like Shreyas Iyer, Quinton de Kock and Kedar Jadhav.

Amre feels these players will be richer by this experience and it augurs well for next season.

Amre said: “Head coach Gary (Kirsten) has addressed that concern in our team meeting. We have to become consistent and that’s the factor why we could not deliver the way we wanted to. 

“Obviously, when you are not qualifying there are many weak points. But there are these particular times where we can see that some of the youngsters are doing well and that can be a big positive for us next year when they can deliver for us, because this experience will help them to play better next year.”

Meanwhile, Chennai are eyeing the top position in the league and are keen to win their remaining two games.

“We want to make sure that we go to number one and then qualify. The players are very determined to win,” said Chennai coach Stephen Fleming.
