Outgoing England head coach Trevor Bayliss will take charge of Indian Premier League franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad from next year.

Bayliss had long ago signalled his intention to end his four-year tenure with England after the end of the forthcoming Ashes series, when his contract expires.

Despite leading England to World Cup glory last weekend, the Australian has not had a change of heart and he will replace Tom Moody at the helm of Sunrisers, who have England wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow in their ranks.

Sunrisers said in a statement on their official Twitter account: “Trevor Bayliss, England’s 2019 World Cup winning coach, has been appointed head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad.”

PA understands the 56-year-old rejected a return to Kolkata Knight Riders and an offer from Rajasthan Royals, who count England stars Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer among their playing staff, to sign with Sunrisers.

Bayliss oversaw Kolkata’s IPL wins in 2012 and 2014, while he led Sydney Sixers all the way in the 2011-12 edition of Australia’s Big Bash League.

Sunrisers added in their statement: “He is a proven winner and we feel that his successful track record will be ideal in taking Sunrisers Hyderabad forward.”

Bayliss’ track record in the limited-overs formats was central to his hiring for England and he has overseen a period of remarkable transformation, especially in one-day internationals.

Humiliated on the global stage in 2015, they came into the recently-concluded World Cup as favourites, having stormed to the top of the ODI rankings after a change of ideology that allowed their attacking instincts to flourish.

They lifted the trophy for the first time, beating New Zealand in the final by virtue of scoring more boundaries after the teams made identical scores of 241 in their ODI and 15 in a super over at Lord’s on Sunday.
