Ex-India coach Gary Kirsten isn’t surprised by MS Dhoni’s fantastic form in the IPL this season.

Skipper Dhoni has lit up the competition with a number of eye-catching displays with the bat.

His 70 not out off 34 ball in Chennai Super Kings’ victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore and unbeaten 51 against Delhi Daredevils are among his best knocks so far with the ex-India captain sitting seventh in the IPL run-charts with 360 runs.

“I not surprised with the form of Dhoni as he can do amazing things on the field,” Kirsten, who is batting coach with Royal Challengers, told reporters in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.

Back after a two-year absence, Chennai are going from strength to strength with seven wins in 10 matches. They sit second in the standings, two points behind Sunrisers Hyderabad.

There’s still a long way to go until the final on May 27 but Kirsten believes there will be plenty of twists and turns in the competition.

“One of the things I have learnt all the way is not to predict a winner for a number of reasons,” he said. “Chennai are probably the form team at the moment. But funny things can happen in the knockout stage so can’t say who will go all the way.”
