Not often will a batsman who has hit a century in a T20 match end up on the losing side, but that is exactly what happened in the Indian Premier League [IPL] match between Kings XI Punjab [KXIP] and Mumbai Indians [MI] on Thursday.
Hashim Amla notched up a fabulous hundred, his first in the T20 format, but the Kings XI suffered a huge loss as Mumbai chased down a target of 199 in 15.3 overs, losing just two wickets.
Since Mumbai were the winning team, we have gone with Jos Buttler as our Player of the Day for his knock of 77 from just 37 deliveries. His innings included seven fours and five hits over the boundary rope.
The England cricketer came into the game without a single half-century in this season’s IPL, but that clearly wasn’t playing on his mind as he played his shots from the first over itself. He took a particular liking to Sandeep Sharma, scoring 32 runs from 11 deliveries off the Punjab bowler.
Buttler was, unsurprisingly, named as the Player of the Match.
