During his knock of 77 against the Gujarat Lions, Chris Gayle became the first ever batsman to record 10,000 runs in T20 cricket.

The West Indian opening batsman got to the mark in his 290th T20 match and Gayle now has 10,074 T20 runs to his name at an average of more than 40 and a strike-rate of just under 150.

When you talk about the greatest batsman in Test cricket, nearly everyone will say Sir Don Bradman. When it comes to ODIs, there is much argument whether it is Sir Viv Richards or Sachin Tendulkar.

When you have the same debate for the shortest format of the game, Chris Gayle stands out with runs all across the globe in various franchise leagues, two ICC World T20 titles with the West Indies and a number of records that no-one else is even close to.

Here, we a look at some of Gayle’s remarkable records in T20 cricket.

10,074 – most career runs (no one else has more than 8,000)

743 – most career sixes (no one else has more than 500 sixes)

769 – most career fours

175* – highest individual score in an innings

30 – number of deliveries taken to notch up the fastest ever century in the format (vs Pune Warriors India, 2013)

17 – most sixes in a single innings (vs Pune Warriors India, 2013)

18 – most career centuries (no other batsman is in double digts)

79 – most career 50+ scores

1665 – most runs scored in a single year (2015)

145 – most number of innings without a duck (from February 2012 to February 2016)
