Sanjay Bangar has confirmed that he has resigned as the coach of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kings XI Punjab.

Bangar coached the team for three seasons, guiding them to their best ever finish in 2014 as they lost in the IPL final after topping the table in the league stage. Kings XI couldn’t carry on that form, though, as they finished last in 2015 and 2016.

There were reports of disharmony in the Kings XI camp last season, but the players were quick to dismiss such allegations at the time.

Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, the Team India batting coach mentioned that he had quit last month, but he waited until now because of the Test series between India and England.

“I submitted my resignation in the last week of November. They [the franchise] came back to me around the second week of December. I was totally engrossed in the [England] series and that is the reason why I sort of waited till the end of the series,” said Bangar.

There are some reports around that Virender Sehwag, who was Kings XI’s mentor, might replace Bangar and get his first coaching gig.

Hashim Amla, Glenn Maxwell, Murali Vijay and David Miller are some of the big names present in the squad of the Mohali-based franchise.
