Kolkata had earlier posted 183-5 from their 20 overs, a highly competitive score against most opposition but RCB are unlike many in the league.

And while fifties from Guatam Gambhir (51) and Manish Pandey (50) had looked to have given their side a chance to claim a crucial victory, RCB’s superstars at one, two and three made the chase look effortless.

They ended up reaching the target with ten balls to spare and nine wickets in hand as first Gayle (49), then Kohli (75*) and De Villiers (59*) dismantled the opposition bowling attack.

It was a feast for viewers, the second screen cricket fans flocking to Twitter to share their delight.
