Former South Africa coach Mickey Arthur joins Pakistan Super League

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) recruitment drive continues with one of the world's most renowned coaches in former South Africa and Australia boss Mickey Arthur the latest to sign up.

Aurthur, 47, played 110 first-class matches in his career but his rose to prominence off the as a coach, taking the Proteas to new heights of success alongside skipper Graeme Smith.

After walking away from South Africa in 2010 Aurthur was appointed the first foreign-born coach of the Australian national team. However his time at helm was not as successful as his stint in Africa.

“Top international coaches from seven countries have signed up for the Pakistan Super League roster. Eric Simmons, Darren Berry, and Mickey Arthur are the top international coaches,” tweeted the official PSL account.

Simmons played 23 ODIs for South Africa and coached Western Province. Berry is a former first-class cricketer who played for South Australia and Victoria.

“We’re trying to bring top coaches to supplement the playing talent. They will also will be brought in by the franchises through draft system,” PSL project head Salman Sarwar Butt announced.

Domestic coaches who have done well in Pakistan will also be included in the T20 league but a final decision regarding the role of local coaches is yet to be made.
