Despite suffering a setback in the first game last week New Zealand are confident of a turnaround in the three-match one-day international series against South Africa.

All rounder Colin Munro insists the mood is upbeat in the Kiwi camp ahead of the second one-dayer at Potchefstroom today.

“When you’re one-nil down in a three-match series it becomes finals cricket and you’ve got to win every game. We’ve got everything to play for,” he said yesterday.

Munro, batting at No7, hit 33 off 32 balls in the first ODI at Centurion on Wednesday as the Kiwis made a bold dash to chase down 305 before they were bowled out for 284 in the 49th over. 

The 28-year-old all-rounder is relying on the positives from the first ODI to come up with a better display at Senwes Park today.

“We didn’t play the perfect game the other night and only just got beaten chasing 300,” he said.

“Everyone is pretty positive and upbeat and we just need to tweak a few little things and do things a little bit better and I’m sure we’ll come out on the right side,” Munro told The Sunday Star Times.

Opener Martin Guptill is a doubtful starter after suffering a hand injury while fielding at Centurion. A MRI scan has ruled out a fracture and a final call on his inclusion will be taken before the start.

South African captain AB de Viliers feels there is scope for improvement after a sloppy display all- owed the Kiwis to get dangerously close in the first ODI. “The kind of intensity and the Protea fire that we always talk about was lacking,” he said demanding a better display from the team.
