Stuart Binny backs India’s batsmen to come good against Zimbabwe

All-rounder Stuart Binny warns the second string Indian batting line-up has the potential to rake-up totals of 300 plus in the ongoing one-day international series against Zimbabwe.

India were down for the count in the first one-dayer at 87 for 5 before a 160-run partnership between Ambati Rayudu (124 not out) and Binny (77) shored up the side to 255-6 in 50 overs.

Although Zimbabwe captain Elton Chigumbura (103 not out) made a bold bid for victory, his side fell short by four runs.

Ahead of the second one-dayer today, the 31-year-old Binny feels if batsmen can see off the initial phase run-making tends to be easy in Harare, where all the three ODIs are being played.

– Ashes: England win first Test by 169 runs
– SLvPAK: Hafeez shines in Pakistan victory
– BANvSA: Kagiso Rabada takes six on debut

“If we get a chance to bat up front early in the morning it’s crucial, with the Duke ball that does swing and seam a bit, that we give the bowlers a lot more respect, than when we play with the Kookaburra ball in other ODIs,” Binny said.

“If you can get through the first 15 overs without losing more than a wicket or two, then we’ve got the firepower to get 300 in an ODI, he added.”

Zimbabwe were dealt a blow when strike bowler Tinashe Panyangara was ruled out of Sunday’s match as he has yet to recover from a side strain suffered during the first ODI on Friday.
