India’s Mohammed Shami, Mayank Agarwal soar in ICC Test rankings after Indore displays

India pacer Mohammed Shami has broken into the top 10 of the ICC Test rankings for bowlers for the first time in his career, following his latest exploits against Bangladesh in Indore.

The 29-year-old seamer claimed a match-haul of seven wickets in the first Test against Bangladesh to help India register a thumping victory by an innings and 130 runs.

Shami’s performance has seen him climb as many as eight places in the latest rankings released on Sunday, with the India man now perched on a career-best seventh rank. His compatriot Jasprit Bumrah remains in fourth spot while Australia’s Pat Cummins continues to lead the bowling charts.

There were gains for Shami’s fellow India pacers Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav as well, who climbed to the 20th and 222nd position in the rankings respectively after their Indore displays.

In the batting charts, India opener Mayank Agarwal’s second double ton in four Tests has seen leap to a career-best 11th in the rankings. Agarwal top-scored with 243 in Indore for India while he had also slammed a superb 215 in the recent home series against South Africa.

Australia Steve Smith remains ahead of the pack in the rankings for batsmen and he is followed by India skipper Virat Kohli who registered a duck in the Indore Test. There are three other Indian batsman besides Kohli in the top 10 of the rankings, with Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma occupying the fourth, fifth and 10th spots respectively.
