India and Bangladesh are all set to play their first-ever Day/Night Test after the latter accepted the request of the BCCI to play the second Test in Kolkata under lights.
Following Sourav Ganguly’s appointment as the new president, the BCCI had requested the Bangladesh Cricket Board to make the Eden Gardens clash a day/night affair.
The development was confirmed by Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo before his side’s departure to India for the upcoming T20I series.
“As a coach and some players, we think it’s a great opportunity and I don’t think India have played a pink-ball Test before” Domingo told the media at Dhaka on Tuesday.
“We haven’t played a pink-ball Test and it’s a great occasion at Eden Gardens and it will be a new experience for both teams. So, we’re excited and it’s going to be a great occasion under lights at Kolkata against probably the best team in the world.

“We’re really looking forward to the challenge. We’re not going to have a lot of time to prepare with the pink ball but it’s the same for India.”
Eight Test playing nations have already played a Test with the pink ball but the BCCI had refrained from going that route so far after stating their apprehensions about the quality of the ball.
Once India and Bangladesh take the field at the Eden Gardens on November 22, Afghanistan and Ireland will be the only full ICC members left to have not played a day/night Test match.
The maiden Day/Night Test was played between Trans-Tasman rivals Australia and New Zealand in Adelaide on November 27, 2015. In total, there have been 11 Day/Night Test matches played between the full members so far.
