England veteran James Anderson will use the world-class training facilities of Premier League defending champions Manchester City in a bid to recover from the calf injury that has plagued him for some time now.

The leading Test wicket-taker in history among pacers would bowl just the four overs in total in the summer’s home Ashes series against Australia before his calf injury flared up once again to scupper his plans.

Anderson will undertake a two-month training stint at the Etihad campus in order to regain full fitness and will be accompanied by England’s head of strength and conditioning Rob Ahmun.

This is not first time that the England man has trained at a Premier League club with the 37-year-old previously undergoing a similar stint last year with Burnley at the invitation of manager Sean Dyche.

The England pacer was not picked for the side’s upcoming tour of New Zealand where they are slated to play two Tests. However, the Lancashire man is hoping to be fully fit by time the year-end tour of South Africa rolls around.

England will play four Test against the Proteas and they will be desperate to have Anderson on their side in a country where seamers of his ilk have traditionally excelled. It will be the second Test assignment of new head coach Chris Silverwood who was recently appointed in the role vacated by Trevor Bayliss’ departure.

Anderson is expected to use Manchester City’s training facilities for a period of two months and he will then hope to join the pre-tour camp for South Africa.
