The first ODI between West Indies and India at Guyana on Thursday was ultimately called off without a result after a spate of rain interruptions throughout the day.

India had handed a start to young Shreyas Iyer in the middle-order while veteran Chris Gayle returned to the fold for Windies as the two teams began the three-match ODI series.

Windies managed to reach 54-1 in 13 overs amidst several rain delays after being made to bat first by India skipper Virat Kohli. Gayle was the sole batsman to be dismissed before officials ultimately called off the match with Kuldeep Yadav picking up the Jamaican’s wicket.

The two teams had recently met in a T201 series where India managed to blank the hosts by 3-0. The second ODI between the two sides is slated to take place at Port of Spain on Sunday.
