South Africa v Pakistan second Test Live: Hosts take lead past 200 at Newlands

South Africa built a substantial first innings lead on day two of their second Test against Pakistan at Newlands.

The Proteas resumed their first innings from their overnight score of 123-2 but lost Hashim Amla early with Mohammad Abbas giving Pakistan the important breakthrough.

The hosts were batting at 188-4 when lunch was taken on day two. Skipper Faf du Plessis and Temba Bavuma both registered their respective half-centuries as South Africa took control. In the final session, Du Plessis and Bavuma took the total past 300 to stretch the lead to three figures.

Du Plessis reached three figures in the final session while Bavuma and Quinton de Kock hit fifties as South Africa’s lead went beyond 200.

On day one, Pakistan were bowled out for just 177 runs in their first innings with pacer Duanne Olivier picking up a four-wicket haul.
