New Zealand captain Kane Williamson hit his 19th Test century as he and Henry Nicholls helped the visitors move into a threatening position in the third Test against Pakistan.

A 139-run unbeaten stand between the duo took the Kiwis to 199/4 at tea, a lead of 125.

Earlier, Williamson and Nicholls helped steady New Zealand after they went from their overnight score of 26/2 to 60/4 in the first session, with night watchman William Somerville and then Ross Taylor falling cheaply. Nicholls and Williamson stitched together a 50-run partnership to ensured the Kiwis suffered no further losses before lunch, ending the session on 112/4.

Yasir Shah became the fastest bowler to 200 Test wickets when he pinned Somerville in front of the stumps, reaching the mark in 33 Tests and breaking an 82-year-old record held by Australia leg-spinner Claire Grimmet

On Wednesday, centuries from Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq helped Pakistan edge ahead, where William Somerville kept things in the balance with four wickets to restrict the hosts to just a 74-run lead.
