It was a day for landmarks for Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan in his side’s first Test against the West Indies at Chattogram.

The 31-year-old became the first Bangladesh bowler to pick up 200 Test wickets when he dismissed Kieron Powell in West Indies’ second innings on day three of the Chattogram Test.

In doing so, Shakib broke the record set by former England all-rounder Ian Botham to become the quickest player in history to attain the double of 3,000 Test runs and 200 wickets. The Bangladesh star took just 54 Tests to get to the landmark, one fewer than Botham.

Exactly six years ago, Shakib had become the second Bangladesh bowler in history after Mohammad Rafique to pick up 100 Test scalps.

Shakib has now picked up 201 wickets from 54 Tests at an average of 31.45 with the help of 18 five-wicket hauls and two 10-wicket match hauls. In the batting department, he has 3,727 runs from 102 innings at an average of just under 40 with the aid of five tons and 23 half-centuries.

On Saturday, the left-armer picked up 2-30 from his seven overs as Bangladesh completed a 64-run win over the tourists in the opening Test. The visitors were bowled out for 139 runs in their chase of 204 on the third day of the Test. Bangladesh take a 1-0 lead into the second and final Test against the West Indies which gets underway at Mirpur from November 30.
