England opener Tammy Beaumont expects India to be out for revenge when the teams clash in the semi-finals of the Women’s World T20 in Antigua on Thursday.

England snatched a last-gasp victory over India to win the Women’s World Cup at Lord’s last year.

“India will definitely put a target on our back, and (want to) prove a bit of a point from last year,” said Beaumont on icc-cricket.com. “But T20 is a very different game. It only takes one player to grab it by the horns and bring it home.

“Any World Cup semi-final is difficult. India are a much-improved team, they’ve got quite a lot of threats. The performances of Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana are quite important. They will be key wickets.

“Also, their bowling attack is quite well-suited to the pitches out here. They seem quite well-drilled in what they’re doing. We’re working hard to counter that.”

India go into the match on a high after beating Australia to finish the group stage unbeaten while England slipped to a four-wicket loss to West Indies in their final group match.

Beaumont was the only member of the top six to reach double figures, and England have so far been disappointing with the bat.

The 27-year-old is confident that can change, though, saying: “There are enough players of high class in that top order. Someone’s got to score eventually, so let’s hope it’s Thursday.

“It’s just a case of putting some key things together. Our bowling attack has been exceptional every game, particularly Anya Shrubsole and Nat Sciver. So it’s just a case of getting a good score and chasing anything down with some confidence in that batting line-up.”

The first semi-final sees hosts the West Indies face Australia, and in-form Alyssa Healy is on track to recover from the mild concussion she suffered when she collided with team-mate Megan Schutt during the group game against India.
