Nic Pothas ‘honoured’ to lead Windies after being named interim head coach

20:21 20/11/2018

Nic Pothas said it is an “honour” to be given the opportunity to lead West Indies after being appointed interim head coach for the upcoming tour to Bangladesh.

The 45-year-old South African, who had a temporary stint in charge of Sri Lanka last year, has been promoted from his role of Windies’ fielding coach to replace Stuart Law with immediate effect.

Australian Law has agreed a four-year deal to take over at Middlesex from next season.

Former Hampshire wicketkeeper Pothas said: “It is an honour to be asked to be the head coach of the West Indies cricket team for the immediate future.

“The Bangladesh series will be a tough challenge which we look forward to embracing.”

West Indies will play two Tests against Bangladesh, the first of which is due to start in Chittagong on Thursday, followed by three ODIs and three T20Is.
Cricket West Indies director of cricket Jimmy Adams said: “Having Nic lead the team at this juncture is important for continuity and we look forward to strong and positive performances from the squad under his leadership.”
