Sri Lanka Cricket have sent bowling coach Nuwan Zoysa on compulsory leave after he was charged with breaching three counts of ICC’s Anti-Corruption Code.

The Sri Lanka A team bowling coach has been involved with the coaching setup since September 2015 and is the second Sri Lankan to be charged by the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) within the last month.

Earlier, former Sri Lanka skipper Sanath Jayasuriya had been charged for his failure to co-operate with ACU investigators.

The first charge against Zoysa accuses him of attempting to fix or otherwise influence improperly the result or other aspects of an international match.

The second charge pertains to soliciting fellow professionals to do the same while the final charge relates to his failure to disclose full details of any suspicious approach by fixers.

The former Sri Lanka bowler has been given 14 days to respond to the charges which were brought against him on Wednesday.

Sri Lanka Cricket have acted swiftly against the bowling coach by sending him on compulsory leave with immediate effect.

Zoysa played 30 Tests and 95 ODIs for Sri Lanka with his last appearance for the country coming in a one-day clash against India in 2007.

In response to the latest allegation against one of its former players, SLC have vowed to set up a fully-fledged anti-corruption unit of its own.

“As another forward step, The Competent Authority of the SLC Mr. Kamal Pathmasiri; SLC CEO, Mr. Ashley De Silva and Deputy Solicitor General of the AG’s Department Sumathi Dharmawardena will travel to UK; in the near future; to meet the UK’s Chief Prosecutor; to discuss the modality of setting up such a mechanism in Sri Lanka,” a media release from the Sri Lankan board stated.
