Mohammad Irfan parades 2019 ICC World Cup trophy in Lahore leg of Pakistan tour

The ICC 2019 World Cup trophy reached Lahore on Wednesday as part of its global tour in the lead up to the showpiece event to be held in England.

Pakistan pacer Mohammad Irfan was on hand to parade the glittering trophy on its route from the Gaddafi stadium to the Shahi Qila (Lahore Fort).

“I’m glad to b e a part of this memorable moment. Pakistan have nice a nice bunch of players and they will give their all to ensure that the team ends up winning the elusive trophy,” Irfan was quoted as saying by the Express Tribune.

The 36-year-old pacer who last played an ODI for his country in 2016 also expressed his desire to represent the Men in Green in the World Cup.

“I have racked up good performances in, both, domestic cricket and leagues all over the world and if the selectors give me the opportunity to represent Pakistan at the World Cup, I will try not to disappoint,” he stated.

The trophy was paraded through the city.

The World Cup trophy will be on public display at the Gaddafi stadium on Thursday before making its way to Islamabad on Saturday. The trophy will head to Karachi from October 9 for its final leg of the Pakistan tour which will conclude on October 13.

The World Cup trophy tour kicked off at the ICC headquarters in Dubai in August this year and will be displayed across five continents in a nine-month journey before arriving at the Lord’s cricket ground in London. During the course of the tour, the trophy will make its way across 21 countries and 60 cities.
