Asia Cup Review: Shikhar Dhawan and Shaheen Afridi are among our award winners

With India crowned champions for the seventh time on Friday night, the 14th edition of the Asia Cup didn’t fail to disappoint with plenty of drama on the field.

With the competition done and dusted, we hand out our awards across six categories.

BEST PLAYER – SHIKHAR DHAWAN

The Indian opening batsman had a tournament to remember as he was pivotal in his team’s title success. It was a vast contrast to a disappointing England ODI series. Read more here.

BEST GAME – INDIA V AFGHANISTAN

Nothing was riding on the match but there was plenty of drama as Afghanistan held India to a thrilling tie in their Super Four clash in Dubai. Read why it won our award here.

BEST PERFORMANCE – MUSHFIQUR RAHIM’S 144 AGAINST SRI LANKA

The Bangladeshi batsman could not have asked for a better start to the tournament when he struck a memorable 144 against Sri Lanka after his side suffered a poor start. Click here on why we rated Rahim’s performance our best.

 

BEST CATCH: MASHRAFE MORTAZA VS PAKISTAN

The Bangladesh skipper led by example by taking a superb catch to dismiss in-form batsman Shoaib Malik in the crucial Super Four clash against Pakistan. Read why it won the award here.

BEST EMERGING PLAYER: SHAHEEN AFRIDI

The 18-year-old made his ODI debut for Pakistan and while it was a disappointing campaign for his side, he made the most of his opportunity to finish with four wickets. There were other players in contention but click here on why he deserved to seal the accolade.

BIGGEST FLOP: FAKHAR ZAMAN

A lot was expected of the batsman especially after scoring freely against Zimbabwe but it was anything but in the UAE. Read why he was a bigger flop than Sri Lanka and Mohammad Amir.
