Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir will return to domestic cricket in a bid to rediscover his rhythm and form after being dropped from the Test squad.

The left-armed pacer has been off-colour with the ball for some time now with his poor showing in the Asia Cup costing him a place in the Pakistan Test squad for the upcoming series against Australia.

In the three matches Amir played in the Asia Cup, he failed to pick up a single wicket. This came after an equally disappointing ODI series in Zimbabwe where he managed to pick up just the one wicket in three matches.

Now, the 26-year-old will return to domestic cricket to represent the Sui Southern Gas Corporation (SSGC).

Amir’s return to domestic cricket was confirmed on Sunday by SSGC coach Atiq-uz-Zaman.

“I am pleased to inform you that Mohammad Amir will be representing SSGC in the current season and we’ll do our best to help him getting his rhythm and form back,” Zaman wrote on his Twitter account.

Since making his return to international cricket following his involvement in the 2010 spot-fixing scandal, Amir has failed to consistently hit the heights he touched as a teenager.

His record in ODI cricket in 2018 is poor with 10 matches yielding just three wickets.

Amir is expected to play in the Quaid-e-Azam first-class Trophy and the Quaid-e-Azam One-Day Cup for SSGC.
